Who doesn\u2019t like to mix things \u00a0up a bit? Enjoy one thing one day, another thing another day. For variety is the spice of life, they say.<\/p>\n
Currently running October 23rd until November 24th, 2013 in\u00a0ACT \u2013 A Contemporary Theatre<\/a>\u2018s Eulalie Scandiuzzi Space are two distinct plays about sex and drugs that together form a rotating repertory. (Your\u00a0Hedonista<\/a>\u00a0recently attended both as media.)<\/p>\n The plays?<\/p>\n A dark, double-billed duo put on by\u00a0The Central Heating Lab<\/a>\u00a0and Azeotrope:\u00a0Red Light Winter<\/em>\u00a0by Adam Rapp and\u00a025 Saints<\/em>\u00a0by Joshua Rollins and directed by\u00a0Artistic Associate Desdemona Chiang, these two plays follow the\u00a0success of their critically acclaimed production of\u00a0Jesus Hopped the A Train<\/i><\/a>\u00a0(2012 Gregory Award and Gypsy Lee Rose Award winners).<\/p>\n First, there\u2019s\u00a0Red Light Winter<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 a truly heart wrenching tale of a bizarre love triangle that takes place among a sweet geek, a broken beauty, and an apocalyptic asshole (yes, you read that right).\u00a0Richard Nguyen Sloniker (Matt), Mariel Neto (Christina), and Tim Gouran (Davis) play convincing drifters in a world that\u2019s as unkind as some of their thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors.<\/p>\n The result: tragedy for all.<\/p>\n Second, there\u2019s\u00a025 Saints<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 a play with a six-member cast that includes the three from\u00a0Red Light Winter<\/em>(playing Tuck, Sasha, and Charlie, respectively), with the addition of the talents of Libby Barnard (Sammy), Mary Murfin Bayley (Duffy), and James Lapin (Sheriff). This play tells the tale of a meth lab on the outskirts of a small rural town in Southern West Virginia.<\/p>\n The result?<\/p>\n Once again, tragedy for all.<\/p>\n In sum, these plays are heavy, intense, depressing \u2026 but oh-so-good and well worth the ticket price.<\/p>\n
