It was \u201cKiller Joe\u201d by a then unknown named Tracy Letts, who has since won a Pulitzer Prize and is now regarded as one of our finest playwrights. I give you this seemingly irrelevant information because \u201c25 Saints\u201d by Joshua Rollins had the same impact on me as did \u201cKiller Joe.\u201d This is a powerhouse of a play, and Azeotrope\u2019s production gives it everything it deserves.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.azotheatre.dreamhosters.com\/az\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/25s-06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-174\" alt=\"25s-06\" src=\"http:\/\/www.azotheatre.dreamhosters.com\/az\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/25s-06-300x240.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.azotheatre.dreamhosters.com\/az\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/25s-06-300x240.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.azotheatre.dreamhosters.com\/az\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/25s-06-332x265.jpg 332w, http:\/\/www.azotheatre.dreamhosters.com\/az\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/25s-06.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>It\u2019s violent, harrowing, gut wrenching. It\u2019s about fierce people who never really had a chance, people caught up in tawdry lives, people blackmailed into criminal behavior, manipulated and used. There\u2019s not a weak member in the cast. Richard Nguyen Sloniker and Tim Gouran do despicable things, yet your heart goes out to them. Like flies caught in a spider\u2019s web they struggle as the web draws tighter and tighter until it chokes off all life. Bravura performances!<\/p>\n<p>And the girl friends\/accomplices cause the audience to wince for their plight and recoil at the perfidy. James Lapan as the sheriff makes it clear that evil exists in this world and can be found is unexpected places.<\/p>\n<p>Director Desdemona Chiang and her production crew give this explosive play the effects it requires.
